This is a working picture of efforts in The Gambia: government projects, foreign and multilateral programmes, NGO work, private investment, landmarks and places to stay. Every entry is placed where it happens and marked with what state it is in.
The colour and the ring say what state an effort is in; the small symbol drawn inside says what kind of effort it is.
Where several markers sit close together they collapse into one circle showing how many; the ring around that circle is split into arcs by status, and a red stopped tag appears on any circle holding work that has ended or stalled. Click a circle to open it.
Most markers sit on a town or a specific site. Some efforts cover a whole region; those get a translucent marker with a dashed edge, placed inside that region, and the popup says so. Efforts that cover the whole country get no pin at all — they are listed in the Nationwide tray in the corner of the map, because putting them somewhere would be a guess.
A start and an end are dates something really happened. Stalled work carries the date it stalled where a source gives one; where none does, the line says Stalled; last known activity and the date of the last thing on its timeline, rather than inventing a stall date. Work announced with a start date that has come and gone reads Announced, not yet started. The feed's default order is the most recent of those dates — the newest movement first.
The record covers efforts that were under way at some point from 2017 onwards, plus older landmarks and long-running institutions that are still there. Work that closed before 2017 is generally out of scope and only appears where it explains something that is still felt.
Entries are compiled by hand from public sources, and every entry lists the sources it rests on with their dates. A date under Last confirmed is the most recent day a source backed up the status, not a promise about today. Where the record itself needed a judgement call — a missing end date, two research files merged, a status downgraded — the entry carries a folded Data notes box at the bottom saying so.
